I was walking along the underground of the Esplanade in Singapore when I came across their quarterly exhibitions displayed and splayed from one end of the gallery to the other. In each of these photographs; children, teenagers, mothers and fathers.
The exhibition was named, Archives on Orphans and was certainly an eye-catcher.
In 2004, two organisations, the Henan Charity General Foundation and Shaolin Temple launched a campaign to provide financial support to 1,036 orphans under the age of 16. Many years later, photographer Jiang Jian traced the lives of 400 individuals — each with their own unique story investigated and documented.
Orphans have their own story. Everyone has their own story. This exhibition most certainly caught my eye because of the beautiful photographs that expressed much emotion and story.
